How to use the reading log printable

      1. Type a title and, if you like, the reader's name.
      2. Choose the number of rows between 5 and 60. More rows spill onto extra pages.
      3. Tick the columns you want: author, pages, date started, date finished, rating and notes. The book title column is always included.
      4. Print the log or save it as a PDF, then fill it in by hand as books are read.

      How the log is built

Each page is a ruled table with the columns you chose. The widths are set so every heading fits, and the book title, author and notes columns share the remaining space. A line at the bottom leaves room to write the number of books and pages for the year. Choosing fewer columns gives the title and notes more room to write.

The default has 20 rows with author, pages, started and finished columns. With a rating column added, the page keeps every heading in full. Larger counts add pages with a continued heading so you can keep a whole year of reading in one file.

      Using it for different readers

A child might want just a title, a date finished and a rating. An adult keeping a yearly record might add author, pages and notes. For a class or a reading challenge, print one log for each reader and put a name at the top.

The page is a record sheet and makes no claim about how reading affects any outcome. If you are keeping other kinds of records, the habit tracker prints a monthly grid of daily boxes, and the checklist maker makes lists. Everything is made in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.

      Frequently asked questions

How many books fit on one page?

With the default row height about 22 rows fit on a page. If you ask for more rows, the log continues on additional pages.

Can I remove columns I do not need?

Yes. Untick any optional column and the others widen to use the space. The book title column always stays.

Is there a column for a rating?

Yes, tick Rating. It prints a narrow column where you can write stars or a score, in whatever system you prefer.

Can I fill it in on the computer?

The log is designed to be printed and written on by hand. You can open the PDF in a PDF editor if you want to type, but the page itself has no fillable fields.
