How to use the habit tracker

      1. Choose the month and type the year. They start as the current month and year.
      2. List up to 15 habits, one per line, and give the sheet a title. Short names such as Walk, Read or Water fit best.
      3. Pick the options you want: shaded weekends, a goal column to write how many days you aim for, and a Done column to count your ticks at month end.
      4. Check the preview, then press Download PDF or Print on one landscape US Letter page.
      5. Tick a box each day you do the habit. Print the next month when this one ends.

How the month grid is built

The tool works out how many days the month has, including leap years, and which weekday the first falls on. Each day gets its own column with its number and a one letter weekday. October 2026 has 31 columns and starts on a Thursday, which puts nine weekend days (October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31) in the shaded columns. February 2028 has 29 columns because 2028 is a leap year, while February 2027 has 28. Century years follow the Gregorian rule, so February 1900 has 28 days and February 2000 has 29.

Columns shrink to share the page, so a 31 day month still gets a box large enough to tick with a pen. With 15 habits the rows are shorter but stay readable. The habit names are shortened with three dots when they are too long for the name column.

      Choosing habits that work

A tracker works best with a few specific habits. Write the action rather than the outcome: Walk 20 minutes rather than Get fit. Start with three to five habits you can realistically tick most days, and only add more after the first month. A goal column is useful when the target is not every day, for example Gym with a goal of 12 days.

Weekends are shaded rather than removed because many habits matter on weekends too. If a habit only applies on weekdays, leave the weekend boxes empty and set the goal to the number of weekdays in the month, which you can read off the unshaded columns.

      Using the printout

Put the sheet where you will see it, such as the refrigerator or next to your desk, and tick the box straight after doing the habit. At the end of the month count the ticks in each row and write them in the Done column. The page does not keep a streak count for you, because it does not store your ticks; it prints a blank grid for paper. Habits and settings are saved in this browser only if you tick the remember box, and they are never uploaded.

      Assumptions and limits

      • One month per page. For several months, change the month and print each one.
      • Years from 1900 to 2200 are accepted. Weekdays follow the Gregorian calendar used in the United States.
      • Up to 15 habits per page. Habit names that are too long are shortened with three dots.
      • The tool does not store ticks, streaks or progress. It makes the printable sheet only.
      • Only characters the built-in print font can draw appear on the PDF. Emoji and non-Latin scripts print as a question mark.

      Frequently asked questions

How many habits should I track at once?

Three to five is a manageable start. The tracker holds up to 15, but long lists are easy to abandon. Add more only after the first few feel automatic.

Does the habit tracker handle leap years?

Yes. February 2028 prints 29 day columns and February 2027 prints 28. Century years follow the Gregorian rule, so 1900 has no leap day and 2000 does.

What is the goal column for?

It is a blank box where you write how many days you aim to complete that habit, for example 20 of 31. Pair it with the Done column to compare the target to what you did.

Can I print a tracker for the whole year?

Print one page for each month by changing the month selector. Twelve pages give you a year of trackers with the right number of days in each.

      Does it remember my habits?

Only if you tick the remember box, and then only in this browser on this device. Ticks are never stored because the sheet is for paper.

Where can I plan the rest of my week?

Use the printable weekly planner for appointments and the chore chart generator for shared household jobs.
