A five task plan over two months
Define the scope runs October 12 to October 16, 2026, and Collect quotes October 15 to October 30. Choose a vendor is November 2 to 6, Build and test November 9 to December 4 and Launch December 7 to 11.
The earliest date falls in the week of Monday October 12, and the latest in the week of Monday December 7, so the timeline spans 9 weeks. Each bar is shaded across the weeks it touches.
Reading the timeline
The timeline columns are weeks, each headed with the date of its Monday. A task is shaded in every week that includes any day from its start date to its due date, so a task that runs from Thursday to the following Tuesday fills two columns. With a due date only, the task shades the week of that date. With neither date, it is listed with an empty bar.
The timeline holds up to 16 weeks and always shows at least 8 so there is room for new work. If your dates span more than 16 weeks, the tool asks you to turn the timeline off or to plan the work in two parts, instead of dropping any weeks.
How this differs from other planners
A goal planner tracks progress toward outcomes. This planner lays tasks against dates so you can see what overlaps and who owns what. For a column board that moves tasks through stages, see the kanban board, and for dated events along a line the timeline maker. For goals with progress bars, the goal tracker planner fits better.
The planner draws your dates and does not schedule anything, check dependencies or estimate effort. Everything is made in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.
Assumptions and limits
- Dates are entered by you and shown as month, day and year.
- Weeks begin on Monday.
- A task with a due date before its start date is rejected with a message naming it.
- The page is US Letter, landscape.
Frequently asked questions
How do I show task dates as bars?
Enter a start date and a due date for each task and leave the timeline option on. The page shades each task across the weeks it covers.
What if I only know the due date?
Enter just the due date. The task shades the week that contains it.
How many weeks can the timeline show?
Up to 16 weeks. If your dates cover a longer stretch, turn the timeline off or split the plan so nothing is cut off.
Does it track task dependencies?
No. It draws the dates you give it. Dependencies, effort and resources are for you to plan around.
