How to use the envelope address printer
- Choose an envelope size, or Custom size and type the width and height in inches.
- Type your return address and the recipient addresses, with a blank line between recipients. Each recipient gets a page.
- Pick a text size and where the envelope sits on the sheet. Turn on the outline for a test print.
- Print one page on plain paper, hold it against a real envelope in front of a light, and use the nudge boxes to move the text until it lines up. Then turn the outline off and print the rest.
How the page is made
Each page is US Letter in landscape, 11 by 8.5 inches. The envelope you choose is drawn at true size and the addresses are placed on it: the return address near the top left corner, and the recipient block a little left of center. Text is sized down to fit its space, and the page warns you when a long address had to be shortened.
Envelope sizes in the list are common published sizes, and they are shown as width by height in inches. Envelopes vary a little by maker, so measure yours and use Custom size if it differs.
Getting the print to land right
Printers feed envelopes in different ways. Some center the envelope and treat the sheet as Letter, some align it to one edge, and many ask you to choose an envelope paper size in the print dialog. Because of that, a test print matters. Print one page with the outline on, lay it over an envelope against a window or lamp, and measure how far the address is from where you want it.
Enter that distance in the nudge boxes in inches. Positive numbers move the text right and down, and negative numbers move it left and up. If your printer feeds the envelope at the top left, choose Top left corner for the position. The numbers and placements here are a starting point, and your printer's behavior decides the rest.
Mailing lists and labels
For a holiday card list or an invitation run, paste all the recipients and print them in one go. If you would rather print on sticky labels, the label sheet maker handles sheet layouts, and the business letter generator writes the letter that goes inside. Addresses stay in your browser, and you can ask the tool to remember them on this device only.
Assumptions and limits
- Pages are US Letter in landscape. Printer feed behavior varies.
- Envelope sizes are common published sizes. Measure yours and use Custom size if it differs.
- Up to 100 recipients can be printed in one file, with up to 6 lines each.
- No postal address checking is done. Addresses are printed as you type them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print an address on an envelope?
Pick the size, type the addresses, and print a test page on plain paper. Compare it with a real envelope and adjust the nudge boxes, then print on the envelope with your printer's envelope setting.
Can I print many envelopes from a list?
Yes. Put a blank line between recipients and each one gets its own page, up to 100 in one file.
Why is there an outline on my page?
It is for the test print. It shows where the envelope edge falls so you can line it up. Turn it off before the final print.
What if my envelope is not in the list?
Choose Custom size and enter its width and height in inches, up to 10.5 by 8.
Does this check that an address is valid?
No. It prints the lines you type. Check the spelling and the postal code yourself.
