How to use the gift certificate template
- Enter your business name, a title and a short message.
- Optionally type an amount to print on every certificate, or leave it blank to write it in by hand. Add a use by line or short terms if you want them.
- Choose one, two or four certificates per page, how many to print, a number prefix and the first number.
- Check the preview, then print or save a PDF. Cut along the dashed lines.
What each certificate has
Each certificate has a double border, your business name, a title and an optional message. Lines for the person it is for, who it is from, the amount and the date follow, with a number at the bottom so you can keep track of every one you issue. An optional "Use by" line and a short line of terms sit at the bottom.
The numbers start where you tell them to and count up, with an optional prefix such as GC-. Keep a simple list of the numbers you sell and redeem, so you know which are outstanding. Printing four to a page uses less paper, and one per page gives room for a larger certificate.
Terms and rules
The terms line is an editable example, not recommended wording. Rules about gift certificates differ by place and can cover expiration dates, cash value and what happens if you close, so check yours before you choose any terms. This page does not apply any of those rules.
For a decorative award rather than a gift certificate use the Certificate Maker, for a price list to give with it use the Price List Generator and for cards to hand out use the Business Card Maker. For prize draws see the Raffle Ticket Maker.
Printing tips
Print on heavier paper or card for a better feel, and check the preview before printing a full set. Everything is drawn in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded. The saved copy, if you tick the box, stays on this device only.
Assumptions and limits
- Certificates are printed on US Letter paper and completed by hand.
- Numbers run in order from the first number you enter, padded to four digits.
- The terms line is only what you type and no legal wording is built in.
- The business name in the sample is made up and is there to be replaced.
Frequently asked questions
How many certificates fit on a page?
One, two or four, as you choose. Four to a page makes a smaller certificate with a shorter message, and one per page gives the most room.
Can I print the amount on each certificate?
Yes. Type an amount such as $50 and it prints on every certificate. Leave the box blank to write a different amount on each by hand.
Do I need an expiration date?
That depends on where you operate. Some places restrict expiration dates or require cash back for small balances. The page offers a Use by line, but whether to use one is your decision after checking local rules.
How do I keep track of certificates?
Each one has a number. Write the numbers you sell in a list with the date and amount, and mark them when they are redeemed.
