How to use the price list generator
- Enter your business name, a title and an optional line such as an effective date or phone number.
- Type your items, one per line, as Name | Description | Price, or Name | Price. Start a line with # to make a section heading.
- Choose a currency symbol, whether to hide .00 on whole prices, one or two columns, and an optional footer note.
- Check the preview, then download the PDF or print.
How lines are read
Each line has a name, an optional description and a price, separated by vertical bars. If you leave the bars out, the last number on the line is read as the price, so Haircut 25 works. Numbers become money with the symbol and two decimals, and prices with words such as Call us, From 20 or Free are kept as typed. A price with more than two decimal places is flagged so you can fix it.
Layout
Names sit on the left with a dotted leader running to the price on the right, and descriptions are set below in smaller gray text. Section headings have a rule under them. In two column mode items fill the first column and then the second. Long lists continue on more pages with the title repeated at the top, and the footer note appears at the bottom of the last page.
Good habits for price lists
Date your list so customers know it is current, say what a price includes, and state any extra fees. If you set prices from costs, use the markup calculator or the profit margin calculator, and when you bill a customer, the invoice generator makes a matching document. For food businesses see the menu maker.
Assumptions and limits
- Prices are shown as you typed them, with only the symbol and decimals added. No tax is added or calculated.
- The dollar sign is the only symbol offered, and you can pick no symbol for other currencies.
- Everything is made in your browser. Your list is only remembered, in this browser, if you tick the box.
- Characters the PDF font cannot show are replaced with a question mark.
Frequently asked questions
How do I format items in the list?
Write Name | Description | Price on each line, or Name | Price. For a section, begin a line with # and a heading. A line such as Haircut 25 also works.
Can I show a price like Call for a quote?
Yes. A price that is not a number is kept exactly as typed, so you can write Call us or Free.
Can I make a two column price list?
Yes. Choose two columns and the items flow down the first column and then the second, so a long list takes up less paper.
Is this a menu?
It works as a service or product price list. For restaurants, the menu maker has layouts built for dishes and sections.
