How to use the business card maker

      1. Fill in your Name, Job title, Company, an optional Tagline, and your Phone, Email, Website and up to two Address lines. Leave out anything you do not want on the card.
      2. Pick an Accent color, left or centered text, and whether to show the accent bar. Tick Add a solid color back if you want a plain back with your company name.
      3. Choose how many Sheets to print. Each sheet has ten identical cards. Keep Print crop marks ticked so you can see where to cut.
      4. Press Download PDF or Print. Print at 100 percent or Actual size, never Fit to page, so each card measures 3.5 by 2 inches.
      5. Cut along the crop marks with a paper trimmer, or take the PDF to a print shop and ask for standard business card stock.

      Card size and sheet layout

The standard US business card is 3.5 by 2 inches, which is 252 by 144 points in a PDF, where a point is 1/72 inch. Two cards across measure 7 inches and five rows down measure 10 inches. On US Letter paper, 8.5 by 11 inches, that leaves exactly 0.75 inch at the left and right and 0.5 inch at the top and bottom, so ten cards fill the page.

The cards touch each other with no gap, so one straight cut between two cards separates them, and a whole sheet needs only one cut down the middle and four cuts across. The crop marks sit in the margin, outside the cards, with a small gap from the trim corner, so they are never printed on a card itself. With marks unticked the sheet prints cards only.

The PDF made here has no SumPanda logo and no footer on the page, because the cards are meant to be handed out. The file properties still name the tool that made it.

      Printing and cutting tips

Many home printers cannot print right up to the paper edge, and some need about a quarter inch of margin on every side. The half inch top and bottom margin here fits most printers, but if yours clips the crop marks, print one test page on plain paper first and hold it over a ruler to confirm the cards measure 3.5 by 2 inches.

Use heavier paper, often sold as card stock or business card stock, for a professional feel, and check what weight your printer accepts. A paper trimmer gives straighter cuts than scissors. This tool does not offer layouts for any specific brand of pre-cut perforated sheets, because their dimensions vary. If you use those, check the sheet maker's template before printing.

For a solid back with the company name, tick the back option. The pages then alternate fronts and backs. Because every card on a sheet is the same, no mirroring is needed: feed the sheet so the back prints on the other side, flipping on the long edge.

What the cards include and leave out

Text is set in the built-in Helvetica family, with the name in bold at the top, the job title and company below it and the contact lines at the bottom. Long lines are shortened with an ellipsis rather than running over the edge. There is no logo upload, photo or QR code. For a scannable code on paper, make one with the QR code generator and add it to your own layout.

Everything is made in your browser. Your details are not uploaded, and if you tick Remember they stay in this browser only. Check spelling, phone numbers and web addresses carefully before printing a large batch.

      Assumptions and limits

      • Cards are 3.5 by 2 inches, ten per US Letter page in two columns and five rows with no gaps. Other card sizes, bleed and rounded corners are not offered.
      • Printed size is only exact when printing at 100 percent. Printers and paper can be off by a small amount, so check one sheet before a large run.
      • Fonts are limited to the built-in Helvetica family. Characters it cannot draw, such as emoji or non-Latin scripts, print as a question mark.
      • No claim is made that the sheet fits any brand of perforated card paper. Use plain card stock and a trimmer, or check that product's own template.

      Frequently asked questions

What size is a standard business card in the US?

A standard US business card is 3.5 by 2 inches. This tool prints ten of them on one US Letter page, two across and five down, with crop marks in the margins so you can cut them out.

Why is there no logo or footer on the PDF pages?

Cards are handed to other people, so the page carries only your design and the crop marks. The footer that other SumPanda PDFs have is left off here on purpose.

Can I print on both sides?

Yes. Tick the solid color back option and the pages alternate fronts and backs. Print double-sided flipping on the long edge, or print the front pages first and feed them again for the backs.

Will this fit perforated business card sheets?

It is not made for any brand of perforated sheet, and no compatibility is claimed. Use plain card stock and cut along the marks, or check the dimensions of your sheet before printing on it.

Does it upload my contact details?

No. The cards are drawn and the PDF is created on your device. The only copy kept is the optional one in your browser storage, which you can remove by unticking the remember box.
