How to use the assignment tracker
- Press Add assignment and enter the course, the assignment name, its due date and its status: To do, In progress or Done.
- For the grade estimate, add the weight (the percent of the course grade), and once it is graded the score and the points possible.
- Read the table: open work is listed first by due date, overdue items are marked, and finished work follows.
- Check Grade so far by course for the weighted estimate of each course from the graded work.
- Press Print or Download PDF for a landscape planner, Download CSV for a spreadsheet, or Copy summary for a short text version.
How the weighted estimate is calculated
For each course the tool takes every assignment that has a weight, a score and points possible. Each one is turned into a fraction, score over points possible, multiplied by its weight, and the results are added and divided by the total of the weights used. It is the grade on the graded work so far, rescaled so that the weights counted add up to 100.
In a Math course with Homework 1 (weight 15, score 42 of 50), Quiz 1 (weight 10, score 7.5 of 10) and a Midterm (weight 25, score 81 of 100), the fractions are 84, 75 and 81 percent. The estimate is (15 x 84 + 10 x 75 + 25 x 81) / 50 = 80.70 percent. The 40 percent final exam is not yet graded, so it is left out for now and the estimate will change when you add its score.
The sums use exact integer arithmetic, and only the shown percent is rounded, half up to two decimals. Scores above the points possible count as extra credit and can push the estimate above 100 percent. An assignment with a score but no weight is kept in the list but does not count, and the Graded work column shows how many assignments went into each estimate.
Due dates and overdue work
Open work is sorted by due date, earliest first, with undated items last, and anything marked Done moves to the end. An assignment is overdue when it is not done and its due date is before today on your device clock. Work due today is not overdue. The overdue flag appears on screen and in the printed table, and the notes line counts how many there are.
Status is yours to set: the tool never marks something done because a score was entered. Up to 200 assignments fit, grouped by course in the estimate table, and course names are matched ignoring capitals, so Math and math are the same course.
Limits and privacy
The estimate is only as good as the weights and scores you enter. It does not know how your instructor drops lowest scores, curves grades or rounds, so check your syllabus and your official grades. For one number such as the score you need on a final, use the grade calculator. Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and if you tick Remember the list is stored in this browser only.
Assumptions and limits
- An assignment counts toward the estimate only when it has a weight, a score and points possible above 0.
- The estimate is the grade on graded work so far. Ungraded work is left out and the counted weights are rescaled to 100.
- Dropped scores, curves, late penalties and your instructor's rounding are not modeled. Official grades come from your school.
- Overdue compares due dates with your device's date. A wrong clock gives wrong overdue flags.
Frequently asked questions
How is the grade estimate calculated?
Each graded assignment contributes its weight times score over points possible. The total is divided by the weights counted. With 84, 75 and 81 percent on weights 15, 10 and 25, the estimate is 80.70 percent.
Why does my assignment not change the estimate?
It needs a weight, a score and points possible. An assignment with a score but no weight is kept in the list but left out of the estimate, and the Graded work column shows how many were counted.
When is an assignment marked overdue?
When it is not marked Done and its due date is before today on your device. Work due today is not overdue. Setting the status to Done clears the flag.
Does it replace my school's grade portal?
No. It is a personal planning aid that uses the weights and scores you enter. It cannot know dropped scores, curves or rounding rules, so rely on your official grades for decisions.
Is my coursework uploaded anywhere?
No. The estimate, PDF and CSV are all created in your browser. Saved assignments stay in your own browser storage and can be deleted by unticking the remember box.
