Wedding Planning Checklist Printable

Print a timeline checklist with due dates worked out from your wedding date.

Enter the wedding date and your tasks as "months to go | task". Each group gets a due date counted back from the wedding, and you tick off boxes on the printed timeline.

How to use the wedding planning checklist printable

      1. Enter the wedding date. It sets a due date for each group of tasks. Clear it to print month labels only.
      2. Edit the tasks, one per line, written as the months to go, a bar and the task, such as "6 | Book music". Use 0 for wedding week. The starting list is an example you can change freely.
      3. Choose whether to show due dates and how many blank lines to add to each group for your own tasks.
      4. Check the preview, then Download PDF or Print. Tick Remember my entries to keep your list in this browser.

      How the timeline is built

Tasks are grouped by months to go, from the furthest group down to the final week, with a heading and a marker on a timeline for each group. The due date on a group is the wedding date minus that many calendar months: for a wedding on June 12, 2027, the 12 month group is due June 12, 2026, the 6 month group December 12, 2026 and the 1 month group May 12, 2027.

If the day does not exist in the earlier month, the due date moves to that month's last day. A wedding on August 31 gives June 30 for the 2 month group, and February 28 or 29 for the 6 month group. Wedding week is due on the wedding day.

      Making the list yours

The starting tasks are a general outline, not a requirement for any wedding. Change, remove or add lines: a small ceremony, a destination wedding and a religious service each have different steps and lead times. Lines can be up to 24 months out, and long tasks wrap onto a second line instead of being cut off.

A blank line count adds dotted rows to each group with a checkbox, so you can write in tasks as they come up. Long lists flow over several pages, and each page repeats the title with the word continued.

      Using it with other planners

Dates and requirements for licenses, permits and legal steps differ by place, so this page does not list them. Check them with the venue, the officiant and the local authority. Pair the checklist with the wedding budget calculator, the wedding day timeline generator, the guest list manager and the seating chart maker.

      Assumptions and limits

      • Each task line needs a number from 0 to 24, a bar or colon, and the task. Up to 120 tasks are allowed.
      • Due dates are calendar months before the wedding date, not 30 day blocks, and clamp to the end of a shorter month.
      • Pages are US Letter. Long task text wraps to extra lines on the page.
      • No legal requirements or vendor timelines are built in. Nothing is uploaded.

      Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I start planning a wedding?

There is no single answer, because it depends on the venue, the season and the guest list. The starting list begins 12 months out as an example, and you can change every line and every number.

How are the due dates worked out?

Each group is due the wedding date minus its number of calendar months. If that day does not exist in the earlier month, the last day of that month is used.

Can I add my own tasks?

Yes. Type them in the list as months to go, a bar and the task, or add blank lines to each group and write them in by hand after printing.

Does the checklist cover legal steps?

No. Requirements for licenses and paperwork depend on where you marry, so none are built in. Ask your officiant or local authority and add them as tasks.
