How to use the two weeks notice calculator
- Choose the day you give notice. Today is filled in for you.
- Set the length of notice. The example is 2 weeks. Switch to days if your agreement says 10 days or 30 days.
- Choose which day is counted first: the day after you give notice (the usual way) or the same day. Then pick your work week.
- Read the last day of notice, the number of working days in it, and the nearest working days if the last day falls on a weekend.
Formula
Last day = first counted day + length in days - 1
First counted day = the day after notice (or the same day)
Working days = counted days that fall on a day of your work week
Two weeks is 14 calendar days. If the day after notice is the first counted day, the last day is exactly 14 days after the day you give notice.
Notice on a Thursday
You give two weeks notice on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Counting starts the next day, Friday, October 16, and 14 days later the last day is Thursday, October 29, 2026. From October 16 to October 29 there are 10 working days in a Monday to Friday week, and the next working day after your last day is Friday, October 30.
If you give notice on Saturday, October 17, the last day is Saturday, October 31. That is not a working day in a Monday to Friday week, so the last working day on or before it is Friday, October 30 and the next one is Monday, November 2. Counting the same day instead moves the Thursday example to Wednesday, October 28.
Why two weeks
Two weeks is a custom in many workplaces, and many offer letters and policies mention it, but it is not the same everywhere. Your contract or company policy may ask for more time, a different start date, or specific wording, and some agreements let either side end the arrangement sooner. The tool lets you set any length from 1 to 365 days, or up to 52 weeks.
What is and is not modeled
The result is date arithmetic on the calendar. It does not know your holidays, paid time off, shift pattern, payout rules or any agreed early release, and it does not decide what you are owed. This is not legal advice. Confirm your last day with your employer in writing.
To write your letter, use the resignation letter generator. To count the days between two dates, use the days between dates calculator, and to set an away message for your final days use the out of office message generator.
Assumptions and limits
- Dates are plain calendar dates with no time zone or time of day.
- The work week you choose repeats every week. Public holidays are not removed from the count.
- The notice length is a whole number of days or weeks from 1 day to 365 days.
- Which day counts first is a choice you make, because employers and agreements differ.
Frequently asked questions
What is my last day if I give two weeks notice today?
Fourteen days after today if the day after notice is counted first. For notice on October 15, 2026 that is October 29, 2026. Your employer may count differently.
Do I have to work all of my notice period?
That depends on your contract and your employer. Some employers release people early or ask them to stay longer. This tool only shows the dates, so confirm the arrangement in writing.
What if my last day falls on a weekend?
The result shows the last working day on or before it and the first working day after it, based on the work week you pick, so you can agree on the date that makes sense.
Can I use a different length than two weeks?
Yes. Enter any whole number of days or weeks. The same steps are used, so it works for a 30 day notice or a four week notice as well.
