How to use the tweet thread splitter
- Paste your long text into the first box.
- Set the characters per post. The starting value is only an example, so enter the limit of the place where you will post.
- Choose the numbering style, such as 1/5 or (1/5), and whether the number goes at the end or the start of each post. Choose None to leave numbers off.
- Read the posts on the right with a count for each. Use Copy on one post, or Copy all posts to get them all with a blank line between them.
How the text is cut
The tool packs as many words as fit into each post. It leaves room for the number first, which grows when there are ten or more posts, so a post such as "... 12/15" still fits. A post ends at a sentence end in its second half if one is there, and otherwise at the last space, so words and sentences are not split when it can be avoided.
If a single word is longer than a whole post, such as a long web address, it has to be cut in the middle. The page tells you when that happened so you can fix it by hand.
Counting characters
Characters are counted as Unicode characters, so an emoji counts as one. Some sites count links, emoji or certain characters differently, so keep a small margin if your text has them. If you are close to a limit, try the word counter for another view of the length.
The limit is yours to set, because limits change by site and over time, and nothing here is a statement of a particular site's rule.
Privacy and editing
Everything happens in your browser, and your text is not sent anywhere. Paragraph breaks inside a post are kept. After you copy a post, you can edit it wherever you paste it. For other text clean up, see text cleanup, and to repeat or reverse text, try text repeater and reverse text.
Assumptions and limits
- Length is counted in Unicode characters (code points), not bytes or grapheme clusters.
- The limit is a number you enter. Nothing about any site's limit or counting rule is built in.
- Text is limited to 100,000 characters, and the limit per post must be at least 20.
- Numbering uses the total count, which is worked out first, so every post shows the final total.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a long text into a thread?
Paste it, set the character limit and choose numbering. The page cuts it into posts that each fit the limit, with numbers added, and lets you copy them one by one or all at once.
Does the number count toward the limit?
Yes. The tool reserves room for the number in every post, using the width of the largest number in the thread, so the finished post, number included, is never longer than the limit.
Where does it cut the text?
At the end of a sentence in the second half of a post when it can, otherwise at the last space. A word that is longer than a whole post is cut in the middle.
What character limit should I use?
Use the limit of the site where you will post. The starting value is just an example, and sites can change their limits, so check the current rule before you post.
