How to use the practice plan template
- Enter a title, and optionally the group, the date and the start time.
- List your blocks, one per line, as a name, the minutes, then an optional note, such as Warm-up, 15, Jog and stretch.
- Enter a planned length in minutes if you want the page to say whether the blocks run over or under.
- Press Download PDF or Print for a one page plan.
What the plan shows
Each block gets a row with its start time, its length, a running total and a space for notes and equipment. Blocks of 15, 20 and 25 minutes total 60 minutes. Starting at 4:00 pm they begin at 4:00, 4:15 and 4:35 and the session ends at 5:00 pm.
The total bar under the table adds the blocks up and compares them with the length you planned. If the blocks come to 60 minutes and you planned 50, it says 10 minutes over. A start time that runs past midnight wraps correctly, so 11:50 pm plus 20 minutes ends at 12:10 am.
Planning a session
A good plan fits the time you have. Put the parts that need the most energy early, leave a little slack for water and transitions, and finish with something the group enjoys. The goals lines at the bottom give you a place to write what you want the group to improve.
Use the Interval Timer during the session to keep each block on time. Rotate who plays where with the Sports Lineup Rotation Generator, and follow the season with the League Table Generator. For a weekly calendar, try the Weekly Schedule Maker.
A planning sheet only
The plan is a planning sheet. It does not check whether a drill is safe or suitable for your players. Follow your league, your coach education and the safety guidance for your sport and age group.
Assumptions and limits
- Minutes are whole numbers from 1 to 999, and the session is limited to 600 minutes.
- The note is optional and is printed in the notes column.
- Start times are in 12 hour form and wrap past midnight.
- The page is a planning sheet and gives no coaching or safety advice.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a practice be?
That depends on your sport, your players and your league. This page does not set a length. It adds up the blocks you plan and compares them with a length you choose.
How do I write the blocks?
One per line as a name, a comma and the minutes, then a comma and an optional note. Warm-up, 15, Jog and stretch is one block.
Can the plan show start times?
Yes. Enter a start time such as 4:00 pm and each block shows when it begins, with the session end time in the total bar.
What does the over or under note mean?
If you enter a planned length, the page compares it with the total. It says how many minutes the blocks run over or under that plan.
