How to use the weekday counter calculator
- Enter the start date and the end date. Both dates are counted.
- Choose the weekday you want to count, from Sunday to Saturday.
- Read the count, the first and last matching date and the number of days and full weeks in the range.
- Check the table of all seven weekdays for the same range, then copy, print or download the numbers.
Formula
Days = end date - start date + 1
Offset = days from the start date to the first matching weekday (0 to 6)
Count = floor((Days - 1 - Offset) / 7) + 1, or 0 if the offset is past the end
Every seventh day repeats a weekday, so once the first match is known the rest follow in steps of 7. Dates are plain calendar dates and leap years are handled by the date engine.
Fridays in 2026
2026 has 365 days and starts on a Thursday. The first Friday is January 2 and the last is December 25, so the offset is 1 and the count is floor((365 - 1 - 1) / 7) + 1 = 52. Thursday is the only weekday that happens 53 times that year, because the year starts and ends on a Thursday. Monday to Friday days total 261, and Saturdays and Sundays total 104.
A shorter range: February 1 to 29, 2024 is a leap-year February of 29 days that starts on a Thursday, so it has five Thursdays (February 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) and four of every other weekday. A range of 3 to 5 November 2026 has no Monday at all.
What a count of weekdays is used for
People count a single weekday to plan weekly classes, count paid weekend shifts, work out how many Saturdays a market will run, or see how many garbage pickups fall in a billing period. A weekday count is also a quick way to check a schedule: if a class meets every Tuesday for a term, the number of Tuesdays is the number of sessions before holidays.
To find a specific date such as the third Thursday, use the Nth Weekday Calculator. To count working days and skip a list of holidays, use the Business Days Calculator.
Both end dates are counted
A range from Monday, November 2 to Monday, November 2 holds one Monday, not zero. Many calendar tools count the gap between dates, which would be zero days. This page counts the dates themselves, so the first and last date are part of the range. If you want the gap instead, subtract one from the days shown or use the Days Between Dates calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- Both the start and the end date are included in the count.
- Holidays are not removed. A Friday that falls on a holiday still counts as a Friday.
- Dates use the Gregorian calendar between the years 1000 and 9999.
- Everything is computed in your browser and nothing is stored.
Frequently asked questions
How many Fridays are there in a year?
Either 52 or 53. A normal year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks and one extra day, so the weekday of January 1 appears 53 times. A leap year has 366 days and two weekdays appear 53 times. The table on this page shows the count for each weekday.
Does the count include the start date?
Yes, and the end date too. If your range starts on the weekday you are counting, that first day is part of the total.
What happens if no matching weekday falls in the range?
The count is zero and the first and last date show "None in this range". A range of fewer than seven days can miss a weekday completely.
Can I count weekends or working days?
The table lists every weekday, and the stats add up Monday to Friday and Saturday plus Sunday for you. To remove holidays as well, use the business days calculator.
