How to use the signature generator
- Choose Draw to sign with a mouse, finger or pen, or Type to make a signature from your name.
- When drawing, sign inside the box. Use Undo last stroke or Clear to try again. When typing, enter your name and pick a style.
- Choose an ink color, and for drawing a pen thickness. Tick the white background option if the place you will use the picture does not support transparency.
- Press Download PNG. The picture is cropped to your signature with a small margin.
Worked example
The drawing area is 1200 by 440 pixels. If your signature covers a box 640 pixels wide and 180 pixels tall, the saved picture is that box plus 24 pixels of margin on each side, 688 by 228 pixels, with a transparent background and your ink color. The margin never goes outside the drawing area, so a signature near an edge gets less margin there.
Strokes are smoothed by drawing curves through the midpoints between the points your pen reports, so a shaky mouse line looks cleaner. A single tap draws a dot, and two points draw a straight line.
Draw or type
Drawing gives the most personal result, especially with a touch screen or a pen. A mouse or trackpad is harder to control, so try a few times with a thicker pen and use Undo. The picture is made at a high resolution so it stays sharp when you scale it down to fit a document.
Typing is an alternative if drawing is difficult. The styles use fonts that are already on your device, such as script and italic fonts, so they look different on different devices, and a style may fall back to a plain font on a device that lacks it. Preview the result before you download it.
Using and protecting the picture
A transparent PNG can be placed over a document in most PDF and image programs. Keep the file private, because anyone who has it can paste your signature into other documents. Nothing you draw or type leaves your browser, and nothing is stored.
An image of a signature is only a picture. Whether it counts as a valid signature depends on the document, the parties and the rules that apply, and some documents require another method.
