How to use the image converter (jpg, png, webp)
- Choose one or more images. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG are accepted, and the list shows each file with its size.
- Pick the format to convert to. For JPG and WebP, set the quality. For JPG, choose the background color that replaces transparent areas. For SVG input, set the width in pixels.
- Select Convert and download. A single result downloads as an image. Several results arrive together in one zip file.
- Check the status on each row. If a file could not be opened, its row says why and the other files still convert.
How the conversion works in your browser
Your browser decodes each image, draws it on a canvas at its full size and encodes the canvas in the format you chose. Files are converted one at a time and each canvas is freed before the next, so a long batch stays within memory. Nothing is uploaded, and the images, names and zip file never leave your device.
Transparency and JPG
PNG and WebP can hold transparent pixels. JPG cannot, so converting a transparent image to JPG would otherwise leave black or undefined areas. The tool fills transparent areas with the background color you choose, white by default, before saving. Semi-transparent edges blend smoothly into that color. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Choosing a target format
Each format suits a different job.
- JPG is small for photographs and works everywhere. It is lossy, so repeated saving gradually lowers quality.
- PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. Photographs become large files.
- WebP is usually smaller than JPG or PNG and supports transparency. Current browsers handle it, but some older programs do not. If your browser cannot save WebP, the tool says so and saves PNG instead.
SVG input
An SVG is a drawing described by shapes, so it has no fixed pixel size. The tool draws it at the width you enter, up to 16,384 pixels, and sets the height from the SVG shape. SVGs that load other files from the internet cannot fetch them in this mode, so those parts may be missing. A very wide setting can use a lot of memory, and a conversion that is too large is refused with a message.
What this tool does not do
HEIC and HEIF photos are not supported. The tool does not include a decoder for them. If your browser cannot open a file, the row says plainly that it could not be decoded, and you should export the photo as JPG from its source app. Metadata such as EXIF location and color profiles is not preserved. Animated images are converted using their first frame. The limits are 100 images, 25 MB each and 100 MB in total. To reduce size afterward, use the image compressor, and to change dimensions use the image resizer.
Assumptions and limits
- Images are converted on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
- The converted image has the same pixel size as the original, except for SVG, which is drawn at the width you set.
- HEIC and HEIF are not supported. Any file the browser cannot decode is reported by name.
- Metadata and embedded color profiles are not kept. Animated images become a single frame.
- Limits are 100 images, 25 MB per image and 100 MB in total, with output held in memory until it is zipped.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PNG to JPG without a black background?
Choose JPG as the target. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick, which is white by default, so there is no black fill.
Can I convert an iPhone HEIC photo here?
No. HEIC is not supported by this tool. Export the photo as a JPG from your photo app first. If your browser happens to open the file, the tool will try, and otherwise it tells you it could not decode it.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps what the JPG already has, including its compression artifacts, and the file usually becomes much larger.
How wide will my SVG be?
As wide as the SVG width setting, 1024 pixels by default. The height follows the aspect ratio defined by the SVG itself.
Why did I get a zip instead of one file?
When you convert several images at once they are bundled into a zip so one download holds everything. Convert a single image to get a plain image file.
