Next step

How to use the add border or frame to image

  1. Choose an image from your device or drop it on the page. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG files up to 25 MB are accepted.
  2. Set the border width, in pixels or as a percent of the shorter side, and pick the color with the color box or a hex code.
  3. Choose whether the border goes around the picture, which makes the image larger, or over the edge, which keeps the size and covers part of the picture. Add an inner line or rounded corners if you like.
  4. Check the preview, pick PNG, JPG or WebP, and press Add border and download.

Around the picture or over the edge

Around the picture is the usual photo frame. The canvas grows by the border width on every side, so nothing in your picture is hidden and the new size is shown under the preview. Over the edge keeps the exact size of your picture and draws the border on top of the outer pixels, which is what you want when the image must stay at a set size, such as for a profile photo or a print.

Inner line and rounded corners

An inner line is a second, thinner band between the border and the picture, which gives a double frame or mat. Rounded corners cut the outside corners of the whole result. PNG and WebP keep those corners transparent, and JPG has no transparency, so the corners are filled with white.

Privacy and limits

The image is read and drawn in your browser and is never uploaded. Very large results are refused with a message, because browsers have a limit on canvas size, so a thick border on a huge photo may need a smaller width. To change the size of the picture first, use the image resizer, to trim it use crop image, and to make the file smaller use the image compressor.

Assumptions and limits

  • The border is a solid color. Gradients and patterns are not supported.
  • Photos are shown with their camera rotation applied, the same as your browser displays them.
  • Photo details stored in the file, such as location, are not copied to the new file.
  • The result is limited to 16,384 pixels on a side and 120 million pixels in total.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a white border to a photo?

Choose the photo, leave the color white, pick a width such as 5 percent and keep the border around the picture. Then download the result.

Does adding a border reduce quality?

No resampling is done on the photo when the border goes around it, so the picture stays the same. Saving as JPG or WebP compresses it again, so choose PNG if you want to avoid that.

How do I round the corners of an image?

Enter a corner radius in pixels. Save as PNG or WebP to keep the corners transparent. JPG fills them with white because it has no transparency.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The file is processed in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
