How to use the fake data generator (names, emails, addresses)
- Tick the fields you want: names, email, phone, address parts, a date of birth, a UUID and more.
- Enter the number of rows, up to 1,000, and choose JSON, CSV or SQL INSERT output.
- Press Generate new data whenever you want a fresh set. Output also refreshes when you change an option.
- Copy the result or download it as a file.
What makes the data obviously fake
First names are ordinary given names paired with made up surnames such as Testerson or Mockridge, so no row is a real person. Email addresses are built from the name and use the example.com, example.org and example.net domains, which are reserved for examples and cannot belong to anyone. Phone numbers use the 555-0100 to 555-0199 range, which is set aside for fiction.
Streets and cities are invented, such as 482 Sample Street in Testville, ZIP codes begin with 000, and IP addresses come from the three ranges reserved for documentation. Companies are named like Alpha Example Corp. Dates of birth are random real calendar dates between 1960 and 2005.
What it will never make
The tool does not create payment card numbers, valid or invalid, nor Social Security numbers, passport numbers, passwords or API keys. Test data for those needs the special test values published by the payment provider or system you are testing against. UUIDs are random version 4 values and are not tied to any person.
Randomness comes from your browser's secure random generator, with rejection sampling so no value is more likely than another. There is no seed, so each press gives a new set. To make passwords or IDs, use the password generator and the UUID generator. To load rows into a database, see CSV to SQL.
Using the output
JSON is an array of objects, CSV has a header row, and SQL is a single INSERT into a table name you choose (letters, digits and underscores only). Values are quoted for you, with single quotes doubled in SQL and double quotes doubled in CSV. Nothing is sent to a server, and the data is created in your browser. Even though it is fake, do not use made up data to fill public forms or accounts.
Assumptions and limits
- All values are made up. Any resemblance to a real person, company or address is by chance.
- Phone numbers use the 555-0100 to 555-0199 range and emails use reserved example domains.
- ZIP codes start with 000 and cities and streets are invented.
- The data is not seeded, so you cannot reproduce a set.
Frequently asked questions
Is the generated data real?
No. Names pair common given names with made up surnames, and emails, phone numbers, addresses and IP addresses come from ranges reserved for examples or are invented.
Why do the emails use example.com?
That domain, with example.org and example.net, is reserved for examples, so a message to one of these addresses cannot reach a real person.
Can it generate credit card numbers?
No. It never produces payment card numbers, valid or not. Use the test numbers published by your payment provider for that.
How many rows can I generate?
Up to 1,000 at a time. Press the button again for another set.
Can I get the same data twice?
No, there is no seed. Download the file if you want to keep a set.
