How to use the lorem ipsum generator
- Choose whether you want paragraphs, sentences or words, then enter how many.
- Keep Start with the classic opening sentence on if you want the familiar first line, or turn it off for fully random text.
- Turn on Wrap in p tags if you are pasting into HTML. Paragraphs get one tag each, and sentences or words go in one tag.
- Press Generate again for a fresh version and Copy text to copy it.
What the dummy text is for
Filler text lets you judge a layout, a font or a template without being distracted by the meaning of real copy. Because the words are Latin-like and carry no meaning, readers look at shapes, spacing and line length instead of reading. It is a design aid, and it should be replaced with real content before anything is published.
The word list in this tool is a plain list of Latin-style words written for it. The text is not a quotation from any source, apart from the classic opening sentence that many designers expect to see first.
How the text is built
Each sentence has 6 to 14 words, starts with a capital letter, ends with a period, and sometimes has a comma in a longer sentence. Each paragraph has 3 to 6 sentences. Words mode gives plain lowercase words with no punctuation. The limits are 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5000 words per press.
Choices come from the secure random generator in your browser. Numbers are drawn with rejection sampling, which throws away values that would make some words slightly more likely than others. There is no seed, so each press gives different text, and the tool does not repeat itself on purpose.
Using the result
To check how long a block of text is, paste it into the word counter. For other sample content, the random number generator can fill spreadsheets, and the HTML table generator turns rows into markup. The text is made and copied in your browser, and nothing you generate is sent anywhere.
Assumptions and limits
- The text is meaningless filler and is not meant to be published.
- The vocabulary is a fixed list of Latin-style words, so the same words repeat in long outputs.
- Output is plain text or simple p tags. No other HTML is created.
- Counts are limited to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5000 words.
Frequently asked questions
Why use Latin-style filler instead of real sentences?
Real sentences pull attention to what they say. Meaningless words keep the focus on layout, typography and spacing, so you can judge the design itself.
Is the filler text the same every time?
No. Each press picks new words with the secure random generator in your browser. Only the optional opening sentence is fixed, and it applies to the first paragraph, sentence or run of words.
Can I get exact word counts?
Yes. In words mode you get exactly the number you ask for. In sentences and paragraphs mode the word count varies, because each sentence has 6 to 14 words.
Does the tool send my text anywhere?
No. The words are chosen and assembled in your browser, and copying uses your own clipboard. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
