Open Graph Image Generator

Make the picture that shows when a link is shared, and the tags to use it.

Your files stay on your device. They are processed in your browser and are never uploaded to SumPanda.

Meta tags

The image is 1200 by 630 pixels. Sites that show link previews crop and size images in different ways, so keep the important text away from the edges. The picture is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Next step

How to use the open graph image generator

  1. Type the title, and optionally a line under it and your site name.
  2. Pick the background colors, the text color and the alignment. Add a logo if you like.
  3. Check the preview and any note about contrast or a title that is too long.
  4. Download the 1200 by 630 image as PNG or JPG, enter the web address where you will host it, and copy the meta tags.

What an Open Graph image is

When a link is shared in a chat, a social post or a message, many apps show a card with a title, a description and a picture. That picture usually comes from the page's og:image tag, which holds the web address of an image. The card image here is 1200 by 630 pixels, a size that is widely used for link previews. Apps crop and resize images in different ways, so keep the important text away from the edges.

The tool draws the image in your browser. The title is wrapped and sized to fit up to four lines. If it cannot fit, the page says the end was left off. The line under the title is shortened with an ellipsis if it is too long, and the page says so too.

Using the meta tags

Upload the image to your site, enter its full web address, and copy the tags into the head of your page. The tags set the image, its width and height, the title and a large image card type for sharing. The address must be a full URL that starts with http or https, and the text is escaped before it is placed in the HTML.

Check the contrast between the text and the first background color. A ratio under 4.5 to 1 is flagged, and a lighter or darker text color fixes it. For other site files see the favicon generator, the meta tag generator and the social character counter, and the image resizer changes sizes.

Privacy

The image and the logo stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the logo can be up to 25 MB. Fonts are the standard sans-serif fonts on your device, so the image can look slightly different on another computer.

Assumptions and limits

  • The title is limited to four lines and is sized between 36 and 96 pixels to fit.
  • Text uses the sans-serif fonts on your device.
  • The meta tags assume you host the image at the address you enter.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Open Graph image be?

The image made here is 1200 by 630 pixels, a size that is widely used for link previews. Platforms differ, so keep key text away from the edges.

How do I add the image to my page?

Upload it to your site, then paste the og:image tag from this page into the head of your page with the full address of the file.

Why is the end of my title missing?

The title was too long to fit in four lines at the smallest size. The page tells you, so shorten it.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Choose a logo and it is placed at the top, and the title moves down to make room.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The image is drawn in your browser and the file you download stays on your device.
