How to use the multiple jobs income calculator
- Add a row for each job and give it a name.
- Choose Hourly rate or Yearly salary. Enter the rate or the salary.
- For an hourly job, enter the hours per week and the weeks worked a year. Leave hours blank for a salary.
- Read the gross income per year, month, week and two weeks, and each job's share of the total.
Formula
Hourly job per year = rate x hours per week x weeks worked
Salaried job per year = the yearly salary
Total per year = sum of all jobs
Per month = year / 12, per week = year / 52, per two weeks = year / 26
All figures are gross, before tax and deductions. A job that does not run all year is handled by lowering the weeks worked for that job.
A salaried job and weekend shifts
A day job pays $52,000 a year. Weekend shifts pay $18 an hour for 10 hours a week over 52 weeks, which is 18 x 10 x 52 = $9,360. Together they bring in $61,360 a year, or $5,113.33 a month, $1,180 a week and $2,360 every two weeks.
The salaried job is 84.7% of the total and the shifts are 15.3%. If the weekend work ran for only 40 weeks, it would add $7,200 instead, and the total would be $59,200.
Hours and weeks
Use the real number of hours you work, not the hours you are scheduled, and lower the weeks worked for seasonal work or planned time off that is unpaid. Paid time off is already part of a salary and can be counted as worked weeks for an hourly job that pays for it. The page caps hours at 168 a week and weeks at 52.
Gross pay and what comes next
The result is gross pay. With more than one job, tax withheld from each paycheck may not match what you owe at the end of the year, and benefits or deductions can differ by employer. Overtime pay, bonuses and tips are not included, so add them as their own rows if you want them counted.
To convert one job to a salary use the Hourly to Salary Calculator, to work toward a target use the Income Goal Calculator and for one paycheck use the Gross Pay Calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- Pay is the same every week the job is worked.
- Hours, rates and salaries are gross and before any deduction.
- A year has 52 weeks and 12 months, and a month is one twelfth of a year.
- Nothing is uploaded. Calculations run in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a job with irregular hours?
Enter your average hours per week and the number of weeks you expect to work. For work that varies a lot, run the page for a low and a high estimate and compare the totals.
Is this before or after tax?
Before. The page adds gross pay. Take-home depends on tax and deductions where you live, which differ by employer and place.
Can I include a job paid per day or per project?
Convert it first. For a day rate, multiply by the days you work in a year and enter the result as a yearly salary. For a project, enter the fee as a salary row for the year it falls in.
Why is the share column useful?
It shows how dependent your income is on each job. If one job is most of the total, losing it matters much more than losing a small side job.
