How this was calculated
  1. Annual pay = $25.00 per hour converted using 40 hours per week, 52 paid weeks and 5 days per week = $52,000.00.
  2. Hourly = annual / (40 x 52) = $25.00. Monthly = annual / 12. Semi-monthly = annual / 24. Biweekly = annual x 2 / 52.
  • Gross pay before taxes and deductions. Overtime, bonuses and benefits are not included.

How to use the hourly to salary calculator

  1. Enter your pay amount and choose how it is paid: hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly or annually.
  2. Leave hours per week at 40 and paid weeks per year at 52 for a full-time job, or change them in More options.
  3. Read the equivalent annual salary or hourly rate at the top and every pay period in the table.

Formula

Annual = hourly rate x hours per week x paid weeks per year

Hourly = annual / (hours per week x paid weeks per year)

Weekly = annual / paid weeks; Biweekly = annual x 2 / paid weeks

Semi-monthly = annual / 24; Monthly = annual / 12

A standard full-time year is 40 x 52 = 2,080 hours. Weekly and biweekly figures show what you earn in a week you work, so unpaid weeks lower the annual total without changing a weekly paycheck.

Worked example: $25 an hour

$25.00 x 40 hours x 52 weeks = $52,000 a year. That is $1,000 a week, $2,000 every two weeks, $2,166.67 twice a month and $4,333.33 a month.

Going the other way, $52,000 a year divided by 2,080 hours is $25.00 an hour.

With two unpaid weeks the year has 50 paid weeks, so the same $25 rate produces $25 x 40 x 50 = $50,000. Working 20 hours a week at $25 for 52 weeks is $26,000.

Why some sources use 2,088 hours

52 weeks of 40 hours is 2,080, but a calendar year is 52 weeks plus one or two days. 2026 has 261 weekdays, and 261 x 8 is 2,088. The difference is about 0.4 percent. Change hours or weeks in More options if your employer uses a different basis.

Comparing a salary offer with an hourly offer

Paid holidays and paid time off do not reduce a salary, but they reduce the hours you actually work. Overtime can lift an hourly worker above the straight-time figure, while an exempt salaried worker is not paid extra for long weeks. Compare benefits separately because they are not in this number.

Hourly figures for common salaries

At 2,080 hours a year, $40,000 is about $19.23 an hour, $60,000 is $28.85, $80,000 is $38.46 and $100,000 is $48.08. Use these as quick anchors when you read a job listing.

Assumptions and limits

  • All figures are gross pay before taxes, benefits and deductions.
  • Overtime, bonuses, commissions and shift differentials are not included.
  • Daily pay assumes the days per week set in More options (5 by default).
  • Semi-monthly means 24 paychecks a year. Biweekly uses 26 only when you work 52 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

How much is $20 an hour per year?

About $41,600 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks.

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the annual salary by 2,080 for a full-time schedule. $60,000 / 2,080 is about $28.85 an hour.

Is biweekly the same as semi-monthly?

No. Biweekly is every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly is twice a month, which is 24 paychecks a year, so each check is larger.

Does this include taxes?

No. It shows gross pay. Take-home pay depends on federal and state taxes, benefits and deductions.
