Click Speed Test (CPS)

Find out how many times per second you can click.

The timer starts on your first click. Click the big button as fast as you can until time runs out.

Time left: 5.00 s

Time is measured with your browser's high resolution clock, so it stays correct even if the page is busy. Clicks and key presses on the button both count. Your best score for each test length is saved only in this browser and can be cleared by clearing site data. Results vary with your mouse, screen and browser, so compare scores only on the same device.

Next step

How to use the click speed test (cps)

  1. Pick a test length: 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. Longer tests are less affected by one lucky burst.
  2. Click the big button as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first click and counts down using your device clock.
  3. When time runs out, read your clicks, clicks per second (CPS) and your best score for that test length on this device.
  4. Press Try again to repeat, or Copy result to share your score as text.

Formula

CPS = number of clicks / test length in seconds

CPS is rounded to two decimals

Only clicks that arrive before the time is up are counted. A click that lands after the end is ignored.

Worked examples

50 clicks in a 10 second test is 50 / 10 = 5.00 CPS. 100 clicks in 30 seconds is 3.33 CPS, and 7 clicks in 1 second is 7.00 CPS.

A 1 second test gives a high number because it measures only a short burst. A 30 or 60 second test shows the pace you can hold, which is lower for almost everyone, so compare scores only between tests of the same length.

How the test works

The clock starts on your first click and uses the high resolution timer of your browser, so the length stays correct even if the page is busy. The button counts mouse clicks, taps, and key presses of Space or Enter while it has focus. Holding a key down does not count extra presses.

Your best score for each test length is saved in this browser only, using local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, and clearing site data removes the scores. If your browser blocks storage, the test still works and the best score is simply not remembered.

Getting a fair score

Results depend on the mouse or trackpad, the screen refresh rate, the browser and how the device handles quick clicks, so compare your own scores on the same setup rather than against other people. Some mice and trackpads limit how fast they report clicks. Techniques such as jitter or drag clicking can raise a score on a mouse, and they can also strain your hand, so stop if you feel pain.

This page is a simple counter and is not connected to any game. If you like timing tests, the BPM tap counter measures rhythm and the dead pixel test checks your screen.

Assumptions and limits

  • A tap, click or key press on the button counts as one click. Holding a key down counts once.
  • The best score is stored per test length in your browser and is not shared.
  • Scores can vary with the device, so they are not a standard measure.
  • The countdown is measured with timestamps rather than ticks, so it stays accurate in a busy tab.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPS score?

It depends on your device and on the test length, so there is no fixed number. A better question is whether your score rises over time on the same setup. Short tests always give higher numbers than long ones.

Why is my score lower on a longer test?

Nobody can keep a burst pace for long. A 1 second test measures a sprint, while a 30 or 60 second test measures the pace you can hold, which is naturally lower.

Does the timer start when I press the button or when I click?

It starts with your first click or key press on the big button, not when you choose the test length. That way you can get ready before you begin.

Are my scores uploaded?

No. Your best scores live only in this browser. They are not sent anywhere, and clearing your site data for this page removes them.
