How to use the anniversary and days together calculator
- Enter your anniversary or start date, such as a wedding day or the day you met.
- Leave Count up to on today, or pick another date to see the count for then.
- Read the days, years, months and days together, the next anniversary and how many days remain.
- Check the tables for day milestones such as 1,000 days and for upcoming anniversaries with their traditional gift names.
Formula
Days together = date difference between the start and the end date
Years, months and days = whole calendar months from the start date, then leftover days
Next anniversary = start date + (years completed + 1) years
Day milestone = start date + N days
The start date counts as day 0. A February 29 anniversary falls on February 28 in years that are not leap years.
Worked example
From June 15, 2019 to October 10, 2026 is 2,674 days, which is 7 years, 3 months and 25 days, or 382 weeks.
The next anniversary is June 15, 2027, in 248 days. The 1,000 day mark was March 11, 2022, and the 10,000 day mark will be October 31, 2046. The 10th anniversary is the tin anniversary on June 15, 2029.
Counting calendar months
Years and months are counted as whole calendar months from the start date, then any remaining days. For example, from the 31st of one month to the end of a shorter month, the month count steps carefully so you never gain or lose a day. For plain day counts between any two dates, use the days between dates calculator, and for more date arithmetic see the date calculator.
Traditional anniversary names
The table lists the traditional gift for years such as 1 (paper), 5 (wood), 10 (tin), 25 (silver) and 50 (gold). These lists differ between countries and sources, and a modern list sometimes gives other materials, so treat the names as ideas, not rules. Years without a common name show a plain date.
Other counters
A day count works for more than weddings: a job start, a move, a recovery date or a friendship. For age, see the age calculator, and for a daily count of progress toward a personal goal the sobriety counter shows milestones the same way.
Assumptions and limits
- Dates are in the Gregorian calendar and have no time of day, so the count does not depend on a time zone.
- The start date must be on or before the end date.
- The traditional gift names follow one commonly used U.S. list and are not official.
- Day milestones are fixed day counts from the start date and can fall on any weekday.
