Username Generator

Enter a few keywords and choose a style to get a list of username ideas.

Words you like, separated by commas, spaces or new lines. Leave empty to use the built-in word list.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The same keywords and seed always give the same list, so change the seed for a new one. Names are not checked against any site, so a name may already be taken or may not be allowed by the service you use. Check it there, and avoid putting personal details such as birth years in a username.

    Next step

How to use the username generator

    1. Type a few keywords you like, separated by commas, spaces or new lines. Leave the box empty to use only the built-in word list.
    2. Choose how many names to make, the style, and whether to add two or four digits.
    3. Set the shortest and longest length. Change the seed for a different list from the same keywords.
    4. Copy the list or download it, and check each name on the service where you want to use it.

    How the names are built

Each name is made from one or two words. They come from your keywords, from the built-in list of 32 adjectives and 32 nouns, or from both when you leave Mix in words from the built-in list on. The page joins them in the style you chose: joined and lowercase, with underscores, dots or hyphens, or camelCase. A number of two or four digits can go on the end, and any name outside your length limits is dropped and replaced by another.

The list is repeatable. The page turns the seed into a number and uses it to drive a small, fixed random generator, so the same keywords, settings and seed always give the same names. Change the seed to see a new set. If the settings leave room for only a few different names, you get fewer than you asked for, and the page says so.

    Picking a good username

Shorter names are easier to remember and type, and many services limit the length or the characters allowed, so a hyphen or a dot may not be accepted everywhere. Avoid using your full name, birth year, address or other personal details, since a username is often public. The page checks none of this for a given service and does not look names up anywhere.

A name that is free on one site may be taken on another, and a service may reserve some words. Treat the list as ideas and try your favorites on the site you need. For the account itself, make a strong password with the Password Generator, check it with the Password Strength Checker, and use the Random Name Picker to choose from a shortlist. The Slug Generator makes web friendly text from a phrase.

    Privacy

The keywords and the names stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and no list of names is stored. Because the same input always gives the same output, you can get the same list back later by typing the same words and seed.

    Assumptions and limits

    • Names use the letters a to z and digits only. Accents in keywords are removed, and other characters are dropped.
    • Length limits are from 3 to 30 characters. The count is from 1 to 100 names.
    • The built-in word lists are short, so only a limited number of different names is possible with few keywords.
    • No name is checked for availability, and nothing is uploaded or stored.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I make a username from my interests?

Enter a few words you like as keywords, pick a style, and choose whether to add digits. The page combines them, with words from its list if you leave that on, and gives a list of ideas.

    Are the usernames random?

They are pseudo-random but repeatable. The seed you set drives the choices, so the same input gives the same list. Change the seed for a new set of names.

Does it check if a username is taken?

No. Nothing is looked up, since the page never contacts any site. Try your favorite names on the service where you want to use them.

    Which style should I choose?

It depends on the service. Joined lowercase works almost everywhere. Underscores and dots are common but not always allowed, and camelCase can be easier to read for long names.
