How to use the social security payment date calculator
- Enter the date of birth. Only the day of the month is used, and it is not stored or sent anywhere.
- Set Start from to the date the list should begin at. It starts on today.
- Choose how many months to list, from 1 to 24.
- Read the next payment Wednesday and the full list. Dates that have passed are marked Earlier, and a Wednesday that falls on a federal holiday is flagged. Print the list or save it as a CSV file.
Formula
Day of birth 1 to 10: second Wednesday of the month
Day of birth 11 to 20: third Wednesday of the month
Day of birth 21 to 31: fourth Wednesday of the month
This is the birth-day rule only. The tool counts Wednesdays from the first day of each month and picks the second, third or fourth one.
Worked examples
For a birth day of the 5th (or any day from 1 to 10), the second Wednesday of October, November and December 2026 falls on October 14, November 11 and December 9. For a birth day of the 15th (11 to 20) the third Wednesdays are October 21, November 18 and December 16, and for the 25th (21 to 31) the fourth Wednesdays are October 28, November 25 and December 23. These dates were checked against Python's calendar module.
Starting from October 15, 2026 with a birth day of the 5th, October 14 is marked Earlier, and the next date is Wednesday, November 11, 2026. In June 2024 the third Wednesday was June 19, the Juneteenth holiday, so a birth day of the 15th is flagged for that month.
Read this before relying on the dates
This page applies one rule: a payment Wednesday chosen by the day of the month you were born. It does not apply to everyone. Exceptions exist, for example for people who started getting benefits many years ago, people who also receive Supplemental Security Income and people entitled to more than one benefit. Those cases follow other schedules and are not modeled here. Your own payment notice or account shows the dates that apply to you.
The tool is not part of any government agency. The rule is stated as it is widely published, and it was not checked against a live government page when this page was written. Payment timing around holidays, weekends and delivery methods is also not modeled. If a payment Wednesday lands on a federal holiday, the tool only marks the date so that you can check it.
How the dates are found
For each month, the tool looks at the weekday of the first day, finds the first Wednesday, and adds seven days for each step up to the second, third or fourth Wednesday. A month always has at least four Wednesdays, so the fourth one always exists.
Federal holidays are checked for 2021 through 2040 using the standard rules for holiday dates, with observed days for holidays that fall on weekends. For other benefit and retirement planning, see the Social Security breakeven calculator, the US federal holidays calendar and the nth weekday calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- Only the birth day of the month decides the Wednesday. Exceptions for older beneficiaries, people who also get SSI and people with more than one entitlement are not modeled.
- The rule was not verified against a live source when this page was built.
- Holiday shifts, weekends and the way payments are delivered are not modeled.
- Start dates from 1990 to 2200 are accepted. Federal holidays are checked only from 2021 to 2040.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tell me exactly when my payment arrives?
No. It applies the birth-day Wednesday rule only. Your actual date can differ because of exceptions, holidays or how the payment is sent, so check your payment notice or your account for your schedule.
Which Wednesday applies if I was born on the 31st?
Under this rule, any birth day from the 21st to the 31st maps to the fourth Wednesday of the month. The day count has no special case for months that are shorter than 31 days.
Why does the list flag a federal holiday?
Some payment Wednesdays land on a holiday such as Juneteenth, Veterans Day or Christmas Day. The tool marks them so you can check how your payment is handled, but it does not guess what happens.
Is my date of birth saved?
No. It stays in your browser, only the day of the month is used, and it is left out of share links, so the result can be shared without revealing your birthday.
