Formula

Amount in installments = total - down payment

Regular installment = that amount / number of installments, rounded to the cent

Last installment = whatever is left, so the plan adds up exactly

Monthly dates repeat the day of the first date and use the last day of a shorter month. Weekly and every-two-weeks dates step 7 or 14 days.

$2,450 owed with $450 down and six monthly payments

The amount to pay in installments is $2,450 - $450 = $2,000. Divided by six, each regular installment is $333.33. Five of those are $1,666.65, so the sixth is $2,000 - $1,666.65 = $333.35, a few cents more so that the plan adds up.

With the first installment on November 15, 2026, the due dates run monthly to April 15, 2027, and the balance after the last installment is $0.00. A first date of January 31 gives February 28 for the second installment because February has no 31st.

What the agreement text contains

The copied text names the two sides, states the amount owed, the down payment and the number and size of the installments, lists the full schedule with the amount left to pay after each one, includes the late payment wording you typed and has signature lines for both sides. It adds no interest or fees of its own. If you want to charge interest, calculate the installments with the Amortization Schedule Calculator and enter the total repaid as the amount owed.

The late payment wording is your own. The text in the field is an example, and what you may charge and how a late fee must be described depends on where you live and on your contract. Treat the output as a clear starting point and not legal advice.

Rounding and dates

Money is rounded to the cent, and the last installment takes the small difference so that the sum of the installments equals the amount financed exactly. The date rule for months means installments land on the same day of the month where possible, which is easier to remember. For other date rules, the Payment Terms Due Date Calculator works out due dates from terms such as net 30, and the Late Fee Interest Calculator shows what a late fee adds. To bill the amount in the first place, use the Invoice Generator.

Assumptions and limits

  • The plan has no interest. Installments are equal apart from the last.
  • Names and wording are examples. Replace them with your own.
  • The first installment date starts 30 days from today until you change it.
  • This is a plain agreement outline and not legal advice. Have it checked if the amount is large.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the last installment different?

The regular amount is rounded to the cent, so the total of the regular installments can be a few cents off. The last installment makes up the difference.

Can I add interest?

Not here. Work out the total with interest first, for example with an amortization schedule, and enter that total as the amount owed.

Does the agreement have legal force?

A signed agreement can be binding, but whether this text is enough depends on your place and the details. Get advice for important amounts.

How many installments can I use?

Up to 120. The schedule table and the copied text list every one.
