How to use the monthly budget printable
- Type a title and the month you are planning.
- List your income lines and expense lines, one per line. To fill in a planned amount, add a comma and the amount after the name, for example Groceries, 450.
- Add blank lines if you want spare rows to write in by hand. The page holds up to 6 income lines and 26 expense lines.
- Check the preview, then download the PDF or print. Write the actual amounts and the difference for each line as the month goes on.
A one page budget with planned amounts
Enter two income lines, Paycheck, 2400 and Paycheck, 2400, and three expense lines, Rent, 1500, Groceries, 450 and Utilities, 180. The planned income total is $4,800.00 and the planned expense total is $2,130.00.
The left over line then shows a planned amount of $2,670.00 (income minus expenses). The actual column and the difference column stay empty for you to fill in with a pen. The default page has 3 income lines and 12 expense lines on one US Letter sheet.
How the page works
The sheet has an income table and an expense table. Each has a planned column, an actual column and, for expenses, a difference column. The difference is meant to be planned minus actual for each line, so a positive number means you spent less than planned. A total row sits under each table, and a left over box at the bottom compares income with expenses.
The totals add only the planned amounts you typed after a comma, and they are computed in whole cents so they are exact. A line with no amount just prints its name. If either table has no planned amounts, the planned left over stays blank rather than showing a misleading zero.
Making it fit your month
Replace the expense names with the ones that match your spending. Rows shrink slightly as you add more lines, down to a size that is still comfortable to write in. If you try to add more than the page holds, the preview tells you instead of squeezing the text.
For a budget that works out totals and shares for you on screen, use the budget planner. To follow bills through the month, the bill payment tracker adds paid boxes. Everything is made in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.
Assumptions and limits
- The page is US Letter, portrait, and fits on one sheet.
- Planned totals add only the amounts typed after a comma in each line.
- Actual amounts and differences are written by hand, so the page does not calculate them.
- Text the PDF fonts cannot draw is flagged in the notes under the preview, and what you typed is left unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add planned amounts to the budget?
Put a comma and the number after the line name, such as Groceries, 450. The amount appears in the planned column and is added into the total for that table.
Can I print more than one month?
Print the page once for each month and change the month name each time. Saved lines can stay the same, so you only change the title.
What does the difference column mean?
It is a space for planned minus actual. A positive value means you spent less than planned on that line, and a negative one means you spent more.
Why can I not add more lines?
The page is a single sheet. Past 6 income lines or 26 expense lines the rows would get too small to write in, so the tool asks you to use fewer.
